The Oscar Award 2024 nominees: A Race Too Close to Call?
The nominations for the 97th Academy Awards were announced on January 23, 2024, and it’s shaping up to be a race too close to call. With a diverse field of films in contention, from biopics like “Oppenheimer” to animated features like “The Boy and the Heron,” there’s something for everyone in this year’s ceremony.
This year’s Oscar Award 2024 frontrunners include “Oppenheimer,” Christopher Nolan’s epic biopic about the creator of the atomic bomb, which leads the pack with 13 nominations. The film has been praised for its performances, direction, and visual effects, and is considered a strong contender for Best Picture.
Another major contender is “Poor Things,” Yorgos Lanthimos’s adaptation of Alasdair Gray’s novel of the same name. The film is a wild and wacky ride, and has been praised for its originality and humor. With 11 nominations, it’s sure to be a major player on Oscar night.
Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” is also in the mix, with 10 nominations. The film, based on David Grann’s book of the same name, tells the story of the murders of Osage Nation members in 1920s Oklahoma. With Scorsese at the helm and a star-studded cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, “Killers of the Flower Moon” is a film to watch.
